Ellen was a finalist in the Housewife of the Year competition in 1984. While everything seemed perfect at the time, her life was turned upside down when her husband left without explanation several years later. Ellen was no stranger to difficult situations, having landed in a Magdalene laundry as a teenager. In her 40s she fought to turn her life around, returned to school, opened a B&B, and became an active member of her community in Castletownbere.
