A Whale of a Tale

Screened August 17–23, 2018

Since the release of the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove, an environmental debate has shaken Japan about the ethics of long-standing dolphin hunting practices. In the town of Taiji, whose history and culture is inextricably tied to the whaling industry, deeply committed foreign activists wage war against local fishermen unable to give up their tradition. With remarkable access to both sides of this stalemate, Megumi Sasaki (Herb & Dorothy) takes an on-the-ground, dialectical approach, humanizing an urgent issue.

In English and Japanese with English subtitles.
