Vividly recollecting the 1930s of his youth, Fellini conjured beautifully realized tales that swirl through a year in the life of one ordinary household nestled in coastal Rimini. The town had been his own, yet the universal outpouring of love for the movie—including the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film—proved that Fellini had tapped into emotions everyone held, and perhaps still do.
