In the early 1950s, an extended family of Russian Jewish immigrants recount their assimilation into American life in this warm yet bittersweet semi-autobiographical saga. Levinson traces patriarch Armin-Mueller Stahl’s arrival in 1914 through the postwar suburban abundance, where family ties become strained amid the affluence of suburban life.
