Director and co-screenwriter Albertini (billed onscreen as Albert Thomas) launched Laura Gemser into a series of rougher-around-the-edges movies concurrent with the official Sylvia Kristel-starring films. Gemser stars as Mae Jordan—a journalist whose byline is Emanuelle—who has her libido if not her consciousness raised during a trip to Africa by seductive married woman Karin Schubert (Bluebeard); in real life, Gemser married costar Gabriele Tinti.
