The iconic giallo image of the black-gloved murderer originated in this ornately art-directed proto-slasher, filled with alternating color schemes and cluttered salons. A house of fashion models find themselves stalked by a masked killer in search of a diary filled with damning insider secrets. Bava’s camerawork, with its fetishistic treatment of light and space, continues to influence filmmakers as diverse as Dario Argento and Quentin Tarantino.
