In his first movie team-up with Ryder (the new Destination Wedding marks a reunion), Keanu Reeves is a law associate and she plays his intended; they are besieged by his bloodthirsty client, vampire Gary Oldman, who sees in her his lost bride of 400 years prior (also played by Ryder). Coppola unsheathed a camera bag’s worth of visual tricks for his elaborate yet faithful version of the original novel; the movie won Oscars for its costumes, sound effects editing, and make-up.
