Edward Van Sloan returned as vampire hunter and the narrative (abruptly) advanced to the present day as Westerns helmer Hillyer rose to Universal’s challenge of sequelizing Dracula. Stepping up even farther, in her first starring role, was Gloria Holden; as the Count’s classy but tormented spawn, she feeds on females yet tries to free herself of the inherited curse. With Otto Kruger, Halliwell Hobbes, E. E. Clive, Nan Grey, and a pre-column-writing Hedda Hopper.
