Marshall’s underrated film version of Terrence McNally’s acclaimed play was adapted for the screen by the author. The romantic comedy-drama beautifully showcases Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer (together again after Scarface) in wonderful portrayals as an upbeat ex-con cook and a downbeat waitress. The marvelous supporting cast includes a scene-stealing Kate Nelligan as well as Marshall and McNally’s respective signature actors Hector Elizondo and Nathan Lane.
