Loosely based on a series of bondage-themed French comics written by co-screenwriter John Willie, Jaeckin’s kinky, Indiana Jones-esque adventure follows Gwendoline (Tawny Kitaen), a naïve French girl who arrives to China and journeys to the dangerous Yik-Yak desert to find her butterfly catcher father, accompanied by her trusty maid Beth and mercenary adventurer Willard. Sexual tensions mount and contribute to the frenzy of Jaeckin’s wildly entertaining genre film, also known as The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak.
