With hubby Jon Seda in jail, Bronx housewife and mother Luna Lauren Vélez takes a Manhattan job with record exec Griffin Dunne, backed by transgender sibling Jesse Borrego and tut-tutted by mother-in-law Rita Moreno, while older son Tomas Melly heads for trouble. Writer/director Martin was among the first women of color to helm a film for a major studio; her picture blending boisterous humor and slice-of-life drama received four Independent Spirit Award nominations.
