Welles had considerable input on this stellar adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel, with mentor John Houseman among the screenwriters. Joan Fontaine stars as Jane, whose inner strength affects brooding employer Mr. Rochester, played by Welles. Also in the cast: Elizabeth Taylor (unbilled), Margaret O’Brien, Peggy Ann Garner (playing young Jane), and Welles movie alumni Agnes Moorehead and Erskine Sanford.
