Following Daughters of Darkness, Kümel helmed this passion project, destined to become another surreal cult favorite. Conceiving his own make-up as usual, Welles is lord of the titular estate, where visiting nephew Mathieu Carrière finds himself unable to leave and ensnared in elements of Greek mythology made manifest; UK miniseries queen Susan Hampshire portrays Carrière’s sister, among multiple roles. We are screening the preferred director’s cut.
