The least typical of Perry’s films is an efficiently-directed indictment of Catholic corruption co-written by Abraham Polonsky. American priest Christopher Reeve works ruthlessly to restore the postwar Vatican’s cash flow with shady financial wheeling and dealing, and while rising up the church’s ranks conducts an affair with nun Geneviève Bujold. A must for devotees of Vatican intrigue and infighting.
