Prior to the series’ final season the Pythons poured their energy into a threadbare-epic take on the legend of King Arthur (Graham Chapman) and his quest for the Holy Grail. Terrys Gilliam and Jones settle into director’s chairs with serious intent—while never missing an opportunity to wallow in puns, over-the-top gore, and abject silliness. The picture became a cult favorite, a midnight movie, and, finally, a Broadway musical.
