Quine and then-writing partner Blake Edwards adapted the popular romantic-comedy stage play based on Ruth McKenney’s short stories, with Betty Garrett playing the fictionalized version of the author, posing as sister Janet Leigh to impress publisher Jack Lemmon. Winningly choreographing the Jule Styne/Leo Robin musical numbers, Fosse also charmingly co-stars as one of Leigh’s suitors—hitting an onscreen high in his own terrific dance-off opposite musical comedy ace Tommy Rall.
