Turning the camera on himself, Lanzmann crafted this dispatch from North Korea to recount an experience he had there in 1958; while on a European delegation sent after the war, he chanced a flirtation with a Korean Red Cross nurse. Returning to militant Pyongyang under the guise of making a film about martial arts, he uses the anecdote to open an inquiry on direct human experience in the face of propaganda and repression.
