The third entry in the Vacation series (despite the characters not going on vacation in the actual film), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation has a script by John Hughes based on his short story Christmas ’59. Once again, Clark Griswold goes over-the-top in trying to create a nice family outing, this time slapstick-ing his way through what he thinks is an old-fashioned family Christmas. Lots of notable loveable character actors portray extended family members, and once again the Griswold siblings are portrayed by different actors, this time Juliette Lewis and Johnny Galecki. Interesting musical details include a score by Angelo Badalamenti as well as a theme song by living legend Mavis Staples.
