In the second of her three films to explore psychoanalysis, Streisand delivers an atypically intense performance as a possibly schizophrenic call girl who kills a client (a genuinely scary Leslie Nielsen) in self defense and then, aided by attorney Richard Dreyfuss, battles her parents for the right to stand trial rather than be declared insane.
