Winner of the Vulcan Award at Cannes for Best Cinematography, Petrov’s Flu, adapted from a novel not yet translated into English, is a fever dream, a vivid phantasmagoria that makes Beau is Afraid look linear. Serebrennikov’s latest film, about Tchaikovsky’s homosexuality, Tchaikovsky’s Wife, also shot by Opelyants, shown last year in Cannes, has yet to open in the U.S.
