The second film in John Carpenter’s unofficial apocalypse trilogy, Prince of Darkness stars Carpenter veteran Donald Pleasence as a priest who enlists a group of scientists and graduate students to investigate a mysterious cylinder in a Los Angeles church that might be connected to an ancient evil force. Met with middling reviews during its original release, Prince of Darkness is now considered one of Carpenter’s greatest achievements in atmospheric terror and features another one of his classic synthesizer scores.
