Hellman’s spare, low-budget Western—written by a 29-year-old Jack Nicholson and shot back-to-back with The Shooting—features Stanton as Blind Dick, the one-eyed leader of a gang of outlaws fresh from a robbery who allow a trio of cowboys (Nicholson, Cameron Mitchell, Tom Filer) to share their campsite. They awake the next morning to find themselves surrounded by a posse bent on revenge.
