A prime example of writer/director Vecchiali’s films plunging into the emotionally confrontational and the sexually frank. Marianne Basler was a César Award nominee for her portrayal of the title character, a Les Halles streetwalker whose even keel with pimp Jean Sorel is upended when she falls for laborer Pierre Cosso, with whom she ponders starting a new life. Vecchiali dedicated this work to, among others, Max Ophüls and Danielle Darrieux.
