Charting the testy relationship between struggling poster artist François Cluzet and Dexter Gordon’s self-destructive American sax player, who performs in Paris’s Blue Note club in 1959, ’Round Midnight is inspired by incidents in the lives of Bud Powell and Francis Paudras, the jazz musician and the young enthusiast who looked after him. Jazz musician Gordon’s performance was nominated for an Oscar.
