If Pacino’s characters are mostly urban types, Scarecrow, about two mismatched vagrants hitchhiking across country, is the most notable exception. Easy-going, philosophical Lion (Pacino) falls in with hot-headed, misanthropic Max (Gene Hackman) and a partnership and tender bond slowly forms between them through the vagaries of life on the road from California to Denver to Detroit.
