British novelist Corin Redgrave, house-hunting in France, is welcomed into a mansion by Leslie Caron, Marie-France Pisier, and Bulle Ogier—and finds himself strangely unable to leave. De Gregorio’s oneiric drama is bookended by two other films in this series: after his work as screenwriter on Céline and Julie Go Boating, he revisited that movie’s milieu-within-the-milieu territory for this, his directorial debut, which takes its inspiration from James’ The Other House.
