Eve Gill (Jane Wyman), an aspiring actress, seeks to clear the name of her friend and crush Jonathan Cooper (Richard Todd) while posing as a maid to the woman (Marlene Dietrich) whose husband Jonathan is accused of murdering.
A natural milieu for a Hitchcock film, the very premise of Stage Fright is based on the theater, the birthplace of artifice and illusion. Featuring the alluring talents of Marlene Dietrich (singing “The Laziest Gal In Town”, specifically written by Cole Porter for this film) and a likeable, spirited performance by Jane Wyman (fresh off of an Oscar win for Johnny Belinda), the film sparkles with warmth, charm, wit and, naturally, suspense.
