Once upon a time in the Old West, a water-rights dispute leads to a feud between families headed respectively by self-styled patrician Charles Bickford and earthy self-made Burl Ives in an Oscar-winning performance. Wyler marshals both the big-screen sweep (set to a terrific score by Jerome Moross) and the swell cast that includes Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker, and Chuck Connors.
