In a return to WWII stories, Hammer struck a national nerve depicting the real-life atrocities from 1945. Deep in a Malaysian jungle, word of war’s end hasn’t arrived, and the British being held in a Japanese camp are at the end of their tether following years of torture. POW leader André Morell and women’s contingent rep Barbara Shelley brace themselves for a to-the-death confrontation with camp commander Ronald Radd (one of several Anglo actors playing Japanese characters).
