Hammer re-exhumed another of its famous monsters, although the scenario by Carreras (a filmmaker whose association with Hammer would span nearly two decades) makes sure to layer in a human element to the genre tale. Turn-of-the-century pillaging of relics in Egypt leads to blowback in Blighty, where the acting-out of the Mummy (played herein by Dickie Owen) becomes tied to intimate betrayals. Watch out for top stuntmen/bit players George Leech and Eddie Powell and, as “Achmed,” Michael Ripper, Hammer’s answer to Dick Miller.
