Set circa 1929, this was Fisher’s final non-Frankenstein(s) movie for Hammer. The director goes phantasmagoric in reaping the benefits of genre ace Richard Matheson’s adaptation of a Dennis Wheatley novel championed by star Christopher Lee. Taking a more heroic screen stance here, Lee plays an English nobleman whose knowledge of the occult comes in handy when Charles Gray’s Satanic cabal targets his late friend’s son Patrick Mower.
