To keep its ravenous horror pipeline fed, the studio reached back to the Greek classics for this tale of a village stalked by the ancient mythological creature, now in human form but still turning its victims to stone. As suspicion falls on Hammer leading lady Barbara Shelley, town doctor Peter Cushing and lawman Patrick Troughton (soon to star as the second Doctor Who) must accept help from professor Christopher Lee.
