In the first of his three (so far) collaborations with Anderson, Goldblum portrays an oceanographer who has long been the uppity rival to Bill Murray’s titular explorer, not to mention first husband to the latter’s now-estranged wife Anjelica Huston; a deep dive into midlife relationships as well as a dangerous shark-hunting expedition looms for Murray and crew. Mark Friedberg’s excellent production design complements Milena Canonero’s delicious costuming.
