In the latest from prolific Israeli director, Avi Nesher, psychologist Yonatan returns from America at the request of his ex-wife to prevent the impending wedding of his estranged daughter Anat—and her conversion to orthodox Judaism—employing both gentle persuasion and tough love, to no avail. These events bleed into Yonatan’s treatment of a troubled woman whose likeness to his daughter is striking in spite of their almost opposite lifestyles. This seemingly traditional drama transforms into a powerful dissection of religious identity marked by its two complex female protagonists.
