In 1917, Claudia Cardinale is kidnapped and carried off to Mexico by Jack Palance. Her Texas oilman hubby Ralph Bellamy opens his wallet to hire Marvin, a savvy soldier of fortune, to get her back as part of a rescue squad also comprising Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, and Woody Strode. The galloping adventure earned Brooks Oscar nods for both his direction and his screenplay adaptation, with Conrad Hall’s cinematography also nominated.
