The swan song by the great Andrei Tarkovsky—produced in Sweden, starring Bergman regular, Erland Josephson and featuring cinematography by Sven Nykvist—is an apocalyptic meditation on faith and morality. With his trademark long takes and desaturated visuals, Tarkovsky follows Alexander (Erland Josephson), who celebrates his birthday with friends and family at their estate, until he learns that the world will end—offering his own life as a sacrifice, if his family can be spared.
In Swedish, English, and French with English subtitles.
