Von Trotta and Luisa Francia co-scripted a contemporary tale revolving around women quantifying their choices against law and order: aided by her lover, Tina Engel (winner of the German Film Award for Best Actress) robs a bank to keep a child care facility running. Blowback sends her into hiding in Portugal, but the bank’s teller Katharina Thalbach may yet hold the key to her fate.
