In this snowbound study of the ultimate case of cabin fever, Jack Nicholson plays a writer who takes a gig as the winter caretaker for the isolated Overlook Hotel. He holes up for the season with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and young son, and soon the Hotel’s dark past begins to exert its malign influence to ensure that Jack is anything but a dull boy.
