Working for big-time producer Sam Spiegel, the Perrys expanded upon John Cheever’s 1964 short story to follow Burt Lancaster on a whimsical, increasingly metaphysical journey home via the backyard swimming pools of suburban Connecticut, interspersed with a series of unnerving encounters with women. With music by Marvin Hamlisch and featuring Janice Rule, Kim Hunter, and Joan Rivers in her acting debut.
