A media engineer from Tehran travels to a mountain village with camera crew in tow to document a ritual performed after the death of an elderly woman and soon finds himself drawn into the lives of the local residents. This rich, mysterious, and dryly funny work is one of Iranian master Kiarostami’s defining statements, and one of the great films of the 1990s.
