Bogdanovich’s personal favorite among his works is, as he says, “a gift to New York,” and accrues delighted new admirers every year. Helmed on location in a fleet style with run-and-gun yet artful lensing by the great Robby Müller, the corkscrew plotting twists multiple private eyes across the city in comedic and romantic roundelays. Gracing the screen opposite frequent Bogdanovich players are Audrey Hepburn, Patti Hansen, and (in her final film) Dorothy Stratten.
