The Finch children are awakened to the realities of racial injustice when their lawyer father (a stoic Gregory Peck) agrees to defend Brock Peters, accused of raping a white woman in 1932, Alabama. Adapted from Harper Lee’s novel, the film preserves the book’s child’s eye view and its beloved characters, including the mysterious Boo Radley (Robert Duvall in his screen debut).
