The title refers to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), as Lanzmann returns to Israel and again questions the state of the nation as it approaches the half-century mark. This time he focuses on military men past and present to discuss what he refers to as “46 years of perpetual alarm.” The sit-downs include interviews with famed field commander Ariel Sharon (later Prime Minister), civil rights lawyer Avigdor Feldman, and iconic author Amos Oz; among the regions visited are the West Bank and Gaza City.
