Holofcener’s feature debut marked the first of her five (so far) comedy-dramas starring Catherine Keener. Friends-since-sixth-grade Keener and Anne Heche spend summer in the city fretting over the latter’s impending marriage to Todd Field, with the former being courted by Fangoria enthusiast Kevin Corrigan and palling around with old flame Liev Schreiber, whose father is played by the writer/director’s own father, songwriter Lawrence Holofcener.
