Already a pop star, then-teenaged Vanessa Paradis evinced serious acting chops in a César Award-winning feature debut as a philosophy student whose meeting of the minds with professor Bruno Cremer leads to an all-consuming affair. As the teacher’s wife, Ludmila Mikaël was also César-nominated. Working in concert with his frequent collaborator Maria Luisa Garcia— editor and costume and production designer—Brisseau meets yet challenges the tenets of the genre.
