This eccentric and grimy adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s blackly comic novel follows young Army veteran Hazel Motes (Brad Dourif) who returns to his apathetic Southern hometown to found a Church without Christ. Harry Dean Stanton plays a duplicitous sidewalk preacher faking blindness to turn a profit and Huston himself has a small role as Motes’ fanatical grandfather.
