Year of the Jellyfish

1984, France, 110m, DCP

British-born Frank lived and worked in France, exemplifying the maxim “nice work if you can get it” by adapting and directing his own novel on location in the Côte d’Azur. Life’s a beach for heat-seeking teen Valérie Kaprisky (fresh from the ill-fated Breathless remake with Richard Gere), who covets mom Caroline Cellier’s fiancé Bernard Giraudeau, but when his head won’t be turned she acts out recklessly. Shot by renowned DP Renato Berta and featuring a memorable soundtrack from New Wave legend Nina Hagen.
