Iconic Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni took his affinity for disillusioned characters to the burgeoning counterculture movement in America. Set amongst students, hippies, and anti-Vietnam War protesters, Zabriskie Point follows two lovers on the lam, fleeing authorities all the way to Death Valley and concluding with one of cinema’s most explosive finales. Featuring a rock soundtrack with music from Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, and others, Zabriskie Point was a huge box office disappointment for both Antonioni and MGM studios at the time of its release, but has since become a beloved cult classic in subsequent years.
