Remick aced her movie debut playing a teenaged drum majorette who catches the eye of overnight sensation Andy Griffith (also making his movie debut), the latter on a voracious trajectory from guitar-pickin’ no-account to radio and TV personality to media and political influencer. At once a time capsule of 1950s America and an astonishingly prescient account of celebrity toxicity, with razor-sharp scripting by Budd Schulberg and editing by Gene Milford.
