Mulroney plays a Montana teen who pulls away from volatile father Sam Shepard, setting out for Wyoming at the behest of charismatic stranger Taylor; she and costar Sheila McCarthy received Independent Spirit Award nominations. Future Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Ford synthesized his short stories into his only screenplay to date.
